Product Review
Sole proprietors, consultants, and freelancers will find ZipBooks to be just their size. Even on their free plan, you’ll be able to manage bookkeeping, invoicing, and payments. More advanced (but still affordable) plans add time tracking, multiple team members, multiple bank accounts, and basic reporting.
The user interface is clean and easy to master. Users have reported that it can be set up in just a few minutes. Features that freelancers and consultants use a lot – like time tracking – are very centrally located.
There are some things you won’t find, however. Unlike QuickBooks, you’ll find no inventory management or budgeting tools. Support is limited to a chat function. And, you’ll find no robust ecosystem of supporting finance and HR integrations.
While we recommend this product primarily to freelancers or sole proprietors, it does integrate nicely with Gusto Payroll, so it’s possible to use ZipBooks for a small business with a few employees.
Why we love it:
- Affordability: With a relatively robust free plan and affordable paid plans, this is a great value product.
- User Interface: It’s simple, minimalistic, and easy to learn.
- Focus: It’s not for everyone, but that means it works great for its intended audience: very small businesses, consultants, freelancers, and sole proprietors.
